During the 2023 institute, we held a free event featuring Ayhan Hulagu of the US Karagoz Theatre Company to perform traditional Anatolian Shadow Puppetry. The featured performance was also the first Karagoz show on Broadway. Sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh's Summer Language Institute and Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Center, this event also fundraised for Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims and accepted donations on their behalf through the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.
